A 60-day cruise through the Australian Coast was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a isolated coastal location.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The ship departed without her and went back after some time after the personnel discovered the lady was not present.

A major search operation located her remains the next day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator announced that travelers and personnel on the vessel were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its return.

Family Statement

The child of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "surprised and grieved that the liner left the location after an organised outing without my parent".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a walking group.

"From the little information we have been told, it looks that there was a failure of care and common sense," she stated.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mother's existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a very hot day, and mother became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"They requested her to head down, unescorted. Then the ship left, seemingly without conducting a passenger count.

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with authorities to aid their examination".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

The vessel caters for up to a hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to company data. It was purpose-built to enter distant regions of the nation's coast and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to transport passengers on day excursions.

Incidents like this are rare, and cruise ships have procedures to record which passengers are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] on the ship simply isn't an option," one expert stated.

Cruise lines consider these processes very seriously and have "clever tech in place to stop such events from happening," the expert further stated.

"This seems to be presumably a shocking - and tragic - isolated incident."
